03/02/2010, 8.40pm, Dinner.

Venue
259B Rua do Almirante Sérgio
(Note! You can take Bus 18 to this restaurant!)

Cuisine
Portuguese

Ambience
There
is an interesting layout of this restaurant as when you enter, you have to descend down a flight of stairs to reach the 'eating area'. The design is classy and comfortable, and the furniture are mainly wood, and decoration of intricate wood lattice around the stairs. Also, there were many celebrities' photos pasted on one side of the wall in a collage. There could have been background music to improve the ambience. The entire place is quiet (though there are customers) except for occasional communication between the waiters.

Service
The owner of the restaurant found us a seat quickly as we entered, and was polite even though we were taking a long time to decide what to eat! Some of the waiters were changing into their clothes at one corner, thinking they could not be seen by customers! Haha!

What's inside?
Olive
Parsley
Curry Sauce
African Chicken

Remarks
The signature dish of this restaurant! Spicy and thick gravy (as you can see), fragrant and delicious when accompanied with rice. When you eat it with bread, it tastes like pizza! There is a faint taste of barbecued sauce too. It was burning hot (literally) when served! So remember not to get scalded like me, and wait for a while! :) The portion was quite large and I think it serves for 4. There were only two of us, so we had quite a bit of difficulty in finishing it, although it was quite delicious indeed.

Baked Codfish in Cream
Amie's Choice

Cost
MOP 120

What's inside?
Olive
Parsley
Cheese
Potato slices
Codfish

Remarks
The general taste of the dish is salty, and must be accompanied by rice. The codfish tasted very fresh, although in the cream the codfish and potato slices were easily mistakable. This dish also came in a large portion, and would be just right for 4 people. This dish requires acquired taste.

Portuguese Egg Tart
Our Choice

Cost
MOP 7 each
MOP 40 per box of 6

Remarks
Delicious and undoubtedly the best egg tarts in the world! Straight out from the oven, and they were still hot and fresh. We quickly took our photos and begin the savory treat! The buttery crust is aromatic and crispy as I bit in, and the egg custard area is soft and yummy! Great taste! A perfect dessert for any time of the day! Extremely recommended, it's a must-try of Macau! The history of the egg tarts is very interesting too. Click on this link to read it. We even bought 3 boxes home to enjoy. :)

Service
The lady boss was polite and served us seats immediately as we entered. We were offered menus, and served promptly in
less than 5 minutes! However, as we left, the boss seems to look at us weirdly as we took our fun shots in front of the restaurant, and smiled only as we left.

Coconut Chicken Noodles in Soup
Jade's Choice

Cost
MOP 16

What's inside?
Coconut milk
Chinese Yellow Noodles
Fried Doughstick
Chicken
Potato cubes

Remarks
Although the appearance does not look very appealing, it is actually very tasty! The soup base is rich and creamy and resembles the Singapore laksa, concocted with coconut milk. The coconut milk tastes fresh. There is a hint of spiciness, yet not overwhelming. The fried doughstick in noodles is a refreshing blend with the noodles. The generous portions of chicken meat is tender and sweet. Thumbs up! The noodles are springy and delicious. This dish leaves you wanting for more!

Cold Stirred noodles in Burmese style
Amie's Choice

Cost
MOP 18

What's inside?
Chinese parsley
Onion
Chicken
Noodles
Tomato
Potato cubes
Curry Sauce (at the side)
Chinese Yellow Noodles
Chinese White Noodles

Remarks
Anyone who has noticed the name of the dish might be deterred by the word 'cold-stirred', because few would dare to try cold noodles! Once you eat it, you will feel quite surprised. The white noodles at the top are the one that is 'cold-stirred'! It is very interesting as the piping hot yellow noodles below mix with the cold noodles, all nestled in the sauce below. The sauce clings onto the noodles as you bring it up with your chopsticks. The sauce is sweet, sour and rich, and has a tomato and vinegar taste in it. Till now, I can still remember how it tastes like! It doesn't tastes like a dish of a fanciful restaurant, but more like a homemade food, which is good. Settles in the stomach nicely! Love it totally.

The Countdown to Macau.

In just a few hours, Jade and I are embarking on our trip to Macau, kindly sponsored by Jetstar! My first plane flight ever, I am so excited! As a part of the challenge, I will be blogging about Macau and how to travel around this historical place in just $30 for a 4D3N trip.

We will be staying in Hotel Royal, located somewhere in the middle of where most of the attractions are - which is good.

For the past few days, I have used Google Map to survey the area of Macau. I think we will do most of our traveling by foot, since the distances of most of the tourist attractions are quite near.

There are many interesting highlights that attract me about this trip - the Portuguese egg tarts, the different cuisines and snacks! Yes, I'm a fan of good food! :) I will blog about the food we ate in Macau, and you can zip over to Jade's blog for the travel excitements!

Excitement is just round the corner, and everything's packed tightly within 10kg (7kg, to be exact.)!

Jackets, in! (To battle the chill of 18 degrees!)
Camera, in! (To capture the memories!)
Maps, in! (To navigate around the streets in a breeze!)

Let's go! Goodbye, Singapore! :)
